1st Trimester - Pregnancy Eating and Feels
First trimester was tough for me.
Keep in mind each pregnancy is very different, you might not feel any symptoms and if you don’t I am so jealous!
I kept trying to describe to Tyler (who has been a rockstar through this whole thing) what first trimester feels like. All I can think to compare it to is waking up day after day with the worst hangover. The one where you open your eyes and forget that you drank way too much. Immediately your head is pounding, you feel your stomach turning and all you want to do is go back to sleep. This is how I felt for about 2 months, I really have a new respect for moms.
I know every first time mom says most of this stuff, but you only come to terms with it once you experience it.
I have also am finding the next battle during the 2nd trimester, besides feeling ill day after day, is the mental change you have to make. I am usually very fitness and health food focused. Looking to get toned or run a little faster but this mindset has had to change.
Do not get this mixed up, I am so excited for our next adventure and we could not be happier to have this little boy join the Sugai-Brown crew. HELLO pregnancy feels.
I have been finding it really hard when all my friends and family who are not pregnant tell me they are starting a health adventure or trying to get toned. This probably sounds crazy and very selfish but its hard when you can’t take on a challenge you are used to taking on. I then learned that I am in the middle of a different type of challenge. Tyler said it best one night as I was crying/complaining to him how I felt fat and my friends were rubbing it in my face (they are not…again hello to pregnancy). He said “everyone is on their on schedule/path.”
Which is true, I really need to stop letting people make me feel a certain way and I need to just focus on what our family is doing. I want to work on focusing on my families happiness and the health of our growing little crew.
If any of you are expecting, are moms or thinking of starting a family let me know what your challenges were/are. Let me tell you know, you are doing amazing, also a reminder which i need to remind myself often is give yourself a break. Your body is creating a flipping human!
OK! OK! Enough venting!
Now to what I ate during FIRST TRIMESTER to help make my way through the last few months of…not so fun
Fruit (strawberries, melon, asian pears, oranges) - anything juicy or cold
Crackers - I thought I was going to like crackers because everyone says, “have crackers with you at all times”, I was not a fan of them. BUT it is necessary to have because it would help when I needed to have some sort of food in my stomach.
Bread - toast specifically, this came on towards the end of the first trimesters but it is so good. Toast with butter was literally what I dream of.
Ice water with lemon - I was drinking seltzer but it was making me so full feeling. I found the switch to ice cold water with lemon was much easier on my stomach.
Mexican Cola - I would not drink these often but I was suffering from migraines and this would help battle them.
Preggie Pops - these you can order on amazon or find at target but they really helped. The first trimester i always had a bad taste in my mouth and these little hard candies were perfect to help with that. They also were easy to hide when you are still keeping it a secret.
There were many other things and I will definitely add them as they come back to my pregnant brain :) Keep going new moms, moms, pregnant moms and people trying to be moms (you will!). Let me know any other tips you all have!
And of course…keep eating!
