Things We Learned/Learning After Buying a House
"What did we just do? Did we just actually buy a house?"
"Ok, let's take it on!"
We did it, we bought a house! It was beyond stressful but we feel pretty damn lucky to have been able to do this. Both Tyler and I had never done anything of this sort, it was a huge "adult" feeling moment. We have learned so much for doing this whole thing and thought we would share for those who are about to take on something like this. Or you are just thinking about it, I did that for awhile before actually taking the leap!
1. THIS IS THE ONE! -DON'T GET TOO ATTACHED TO THE FIRST HOUSE YOU PUT AN OFFER ON. This was so hard for me, the first house we put an offer on I was SURE that house was ours. I knew everyone told us to not get too excited with the first one...but I did. Nope, we didn't get it...there were 14 other offers. It literally felt like when someone asks you on a date, the first date goes AMAZING. You get the butterflies in your stomach, you stare at your phone waiting for a call/text and then nothing. I promise, the right one is out there. If the first, second or tenth house doesn't work out the perfect one is out there.
2. It is NOTHING like the shows - I am one of those who was stupidly thinking this whole process would be like an HGTV show...nothing like it but we did watch a lot of Fixer Upper when we wished the process could just be over!
3. BE PATIENT - You can say this over and over to me, be patient.... but being patient is not my cup of tea. Buying a house takes a lot longer than I ever thought. Even once we got our house, it takes a long time, lots of paper work and lots of signing.
All in all we could not be happier, this has been a dream for both Tyler and I. Once we officially had the keys we walked into the empty house silently, and then said, "ok here go, lets do this thing." We have no idea what we are doing half the time, but thats all part of it. It can be scary, maddening but god damn it feels pretty great!
Now we are working on making the place our own! It is the best part, I love the decorating, putting our touches to this old foundation and making it our home.
